The HCP project is situated within the framework of the qualification initiative “Aufstieg durch Bildung – Offene Hochschule” (Advancement through Education – Open University) of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research in Germany. These government-funded projects aim to increase the accessibility between professional and academic education as well as to counteract the predicted shortage of professionals or skilled workers in Germany. Until recently it was not possible to obtain academic qualifications for these professions under the German Health Care System. The first funding phase of the HCP-project takes place between the 01.08.2014 – 31.01.2018 and is conducted at the Alice-Salomon-University as participating partner. The HCP-project consists of the development and implementation of an interdisciplinary online-based bachelor study program for health care professionals. Characteristic for the project is the focus on the specific needs of professionals and the so-called non-traditional students for the study program.
The interdisciplinary nature of the program aims to develop interprofessional teamwork within the German health care context, so some of the content of the study program refers to the research findings depicting the present status and challenges of the present professional health care practice.
